Choose the workshop fee that's right for you!
Every year, Yiddish Summer brings together students and teachers from throughout the world to create a unique “Learning Community” in Weimar. We continually improve our fee structure to best serve the financial needs and possibilities of our students. We also want to make it more affordable for you to participate in more than one workshop, so there are built-in discounts for longer stays. In 2024 we offer the following fees, you choose the one that fits you best:

Standard fee:

The standard fee is 85€ per workshop day for the first three days. Starting with the fourth day the fee goes down to 70€, and from the seventh day onwards, the fee goes down again to 65€. Your total fee is calculated on the basis of the total number of days you participate in workshops.

Reduced fee:
This fee is for anyone who cannot afford the standard rate. The reduced fee is 60€ per workshop day for the first three days. Starting with the fourth day, the fee goes down to 45€, and from the seventh day onwards, the fee goes down again to 40€. Your total fee is calculated on the basis of the total number of days you participate in workshops.

Supporter fee:
Yiddish Summer Weimar participants help each other! This fee offers you the opportunity to help worthy students with limited financial means participate in Yiddish Summer Weimar. Together, three supporter fees are enough to create one scholarship for a deserving student. With a fee structure of 115€ per day, reduced to 100€ from the fourth day and reduced again to 95€ from the seventh day onwards, you are doing a good deed and directly helping your fellow workshop participants!

Under the age of 18:
For everyone under the age of 18, we offer a special rate of only 35€ per workshop day for the first three days. Starting with the fourth day, the fee goes down to 20€, and from the seventh day onwards, the fee goes down again to 15€. Your total fee is calculated on the basis of the total number of days you participate in workshops.

I'd like to register for the following workshops:
(Please read the workshop descriptions before applying to be sure that a workshop is right for you!)

Workshop fees are calculated on a per day basis. The price shown is for this workshop. The price goes down if you book several workshops that are calculated on a per day basis. Further information about the price system here.

Is this workshop right for me?

We know that it can be difficult to decide if a workshop is right for you. To help you make the decision, here are two examples of music of the kind you'll encounter in this workshop. One example is written and the other is an audio recording, because we'll be working both with and without written music in this workshop.

Written music example
There are versions of this for C, Bb, Eb and bass clef instruments. Please choose the one that's right for your instrument and try a few times to play it.

Audio recording example
Please listen to the example once through. Then listen again, stop it whenever you need to, try to sing what you just heard, and then try to play what you've just sung. You can also use an app that slows down the music if you like. The goal is to gradually be able to play at least the first section of this piece.

How did it go? If you feel pretty comfortable with either one of these skills, you should feel comfortable in this workshop. If your reading skills are not strong but your ear skills are, that's fine – reading is not a must in this workshop! If you found the audio example more difficult, don't worry! The workshop teachers are very skilled at making it easier to learn by ear!

If you found both examples very easy, you might consider taking a more advanced workshop. But you should also take into consideration your knowledge of Yiddish music when you decide, not just your instrumental skills.

We really hope that this self-evaluation has been helpful to you! In order to continue the registration process, please check the box below:

Is this workshop right for me?

We know that it can be difficult to decide if a workshop is right for you. To help you make the decision, here are two examples of music of the kind you'll encounter in this workshop. One example is written and the other is an audio recording. Most of the time in this workshop we'll be working with written music, with some work by ear as well.

Written music example
There are versions of this for C, Bb, Eb and bass clef instruments. Please choose the one that's right for your instrument and try a few times to play it.

You can also use an app that slows down the music if you like. The goal is to gradually be able to play at least the first section of this piece.

How did it go? In this particular workshop, good music reading skills are quite important because of the amount of repertoire we'll cover. So if you found the written example easy enough but the audio example difficult, that's not a problem. When teaching without written music, the teachers are experts at making the learning process easier. If, on the other hand, the audio example was easy for you but the written example was difficult, you can still participate in this workshop but you might find the pace to be quite fast.
