Andreas Schmitges (GER; dance, guitar, mandolin)
is a musician, musicologist, dance master, cultural manager, curator, artistic director and workshop lecturer who specializes in Yiddish music culture. He studied jazz guitar (Diploma, HfMT Cologne) and musicology (Master, University of Halle) and is the author of several academic papers on Yiddish music and dance.
In 2019-20, he was a fellow at the Oxford Institute for Hebrew and Jewish Studies as part of the research group on Jewish Musical Cultures in Europe, 1500-1750.
Andreas has taught Yiddish dance at festivals throughout Europe and North America, including KlezFest London & Kiev, KlezKamp, KlezKanada, Klezmer Paris, and Yiddish Summer Weimar, as well as at numerous weddings, bar mitzvahs and other celebrations.
