A Summer Evening of Jewish Music

An evening of Jewish music through the ages

Sa, Jun 15 ‘24   05:00 @Schloss Zur Fröhlichen Wiederkunft, Rothehofstal 1, 07646 Trockenborn-Wolfersdorf Wolfersdorf | Free Admission

As Jewish Studies scholar Dr. Diana Matut notes, there is no single “Jewish culture.” Instead, the diversity of music and scholarship presented this evening reflects the wide range of multiple Jewish cultures. Ensemble Simkhat hanefesh (“joy of the soul”) shares the sound of Jewish music from the European Renaissance and Baroque. Dr. Matut, Director of the Alte Synagoge in Essen, presents her research on Jewish artists in prewar German show business. All-star klezmer band Dobranotch brings the evening to a close with a vibrant mix of klezmer dance tunes, Balkan and Roma music.
