Yiddish Dancing has its own musical repertoire - klezmer music - and it’s fun and easy to learn. It also helps create wonderful communities of dancers and musicians. Over the years at YSW, we’ve explored Yiddish dance from various perspectives to better understand how it influenced and was influenced by non-Jewish local dance traditions.
This year, in tune with our annual topic, we’ll dive into Turkish, Moldavian and Yiddish dance traditions and experience their connections and differences. The workshop will be led by a team of three great dancers/dance teachers who are experts in their traditions and are ready to take you on a fun and inspiring dance journey between Yiddishland, Moldavia and Turkey! All the dance sessions are accompanied by live music, and the workshop will culminate in the traditional YSW dance ball featuring the YSW 40-piece dance orchestra. If you happen to be both a musician and a dancer, we encourage you to play in the dance orchestra as well as to dance!
The primary language of instruction will be English, with German translations provided if needed.
Workshop fee: 395 € Standard / 270 € Reduced / 545 € Sponsor / 145 € under 18
