Ilya Gindin (DE/RU; clarinet, saxophone)
was born in 1980 in Vologda, Russia. Since 2000, he has devoted himself intensively to Klezmer music, which has become a central part of his artistic work. He has participated in numerous international Jewish music festivals, including KlezFest London, KlezKanada, Ashkenaz Toronto, and Yiddish Summer Weimar.
Since 2012, Ilya Gindin has been a member of the internationally acclaimed band Dobranotch, with whom he has performed in more than 20 countries and released seven CDs and one LP. He has also founded several of his own projects, including the Engel Ensemble, dedicated to the music of the St. Petersburg Society for Jewish Folk Music.
In 2022, he appeared as a soloist in the Yellow Stars project with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, performing the Russian premiere of Vlad Margulis's Klezmer Clarinet Concerto.
In the same year, he left Russia and has since been living in Germany. He collaborates with various international swing and Klezmer ensembles and served as the musical director of the German–Georgian–Armenian project Find Common Language in 2024.
Since 2024, he has been performing with Dmitry Illarionov in a diverse classical program for guitar and clarinet. A CD recording of the program is scheduled for release in 2026.
