Lisa Hoppe (DE; double bass, composition, improvisation)

is a double bassist, composer, and improviser based in Berlin.

Her musical work spans a variety of genres—and non-genres—ranging from free improvisation and jazz in all its forms to contemporary chamber music and chanson. She is always striving to place the melodic qualities of the double bass in a contemporary context.

She composes for music theater and works with several projects in Germany and Switzerland. Her album Faking An Imperfect Utopia with her band YSOP was nominated for the German Jazz Prize in 2024.

Together with the Swiss actor Nico Delpy, she wrote, produced, and performs in the educational music theater production Brockel 1945. Her latest work—a collaboration with author and sociologist Sabine Hark—is the experimental text/performance/music piece Im Schatten der Präsenz, which premiered in February at HAU1 in Berlin.
