Yair Dalal (IL; composer, violin, oud, voice) 

is a multifaceted musician whose work reflects his backgrounds in European classical music, jazz, and Arabic music. 

Dalal’s family came to Israel from Baghdad, and his Iraqi roots are embedded in his musical work. Whether as a soloist or with his ensemble, Al Ol, Dalal creates new Middle Eastern music by interweaving Iraqi and Jewish Arabic traditions with diverse influences that range from the Balkans to India. 

Dalal also works to preserve the musical heritages of Babylonian Iraqi Jews and Bedouin of the Sinai desert. He performs worldwide, including at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Dalal has been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Israeli Ministry of Culture (2021), an award from the Jerusalem International Oud Festival for his contributions to ethnic/world music (2015), and a Grammy nomination (2000). Dalal is also a peace activist, and in 1994, he performed at the Nobel Peace Prize gala concert honoring Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat.
