Musikschule "Johann Nepomuk Hummel"
Advanced musicians from around the world came to Weimar once again to participate in a workshop that focused on two different eras: the convergence of Moldovan, Turkish, Greek, Ashkenazic and Western musical elements in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and the hybrid musical culture of klezmer and lautari musicians one hundred years later in Edineț and other towns of historical Bessarabia. Under the guidance of world-renowned artists and scholars, they delved into the nuances of these very different but equally beautiful repertoires in large and small ensembles. With tonight’s concert and the Final Dance Ball on August 17th, our exploration of Ottoman Yiddish musical routes and roots, which began in 2022 draws to a close – for now. The evening will also include contributions from participants in this year’s Yiddish Language program.
