Klezmer tunes from the 21st century
Violinist and composer Mark Kovnatskiy and the Mark Kovnatskiy Ensemble present a program of his own klezmer compositions, harmoniously combining the influence of klezmer, Hasidic, Ukrainian, Moldavian and Middle Eastern music in a musical journey through Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Drawing on deep-rooted traditions to create new, contemporary Yiddish music, Kovnatskiy seeks to demonstrate that klezmer, far from being the dusty memory of a vanishing generation, is alive and kicking. The ensemble is joined for this concert only by a very special guest: virtuoso trumpeter Adam Stinga, one of today's leading interpreters of the Moldavian lautari tradition.
