Dan Kahn (US/DE; voice, songwriting)

Detroit-born, Hamburg-based bard Dan Kahn blends Yiddish, English, and German with klezmer, punk, and folk music.

He has led or co-created music projects like The Painted Bird, The Unternationale, The Brothers Nazaroff, Semer Ensemble, and his new trio album UMRU / unrest, with Jake Shulman-Ment & Christian Dawid.

On stage, he’s known for roles in Fidler afn Dakh, Toyt fun a Seylsman, Unorthodox, and was featured in Carnegie Hall's From Shtetl to Stage.

A regular at Berlin’s Gorki and Hamburg’s Thalia theaters, he also co-founded the Shtetl Berlin festival. His Yiddish covers of songs by Cohen, Dylan, and Guthrie have millions of views.

Dan is the Ashkenaz Foundation’s inaugural Theo Bikel Artist-in-Residence, a recipient of the Mlotek Award for Yiddish Continuity and 2023's Adrienne Cooper Dreaming in Yiddish award.
