Musikschule "Johann Nepomuk Hummel"
This summer, our 3rd year of exploring Yiddish music vis-à-vis Ottoman culture, the focus turns to Moldavia. At the crossroads of the Ottoman, Russian, and Hapsburg empires, historic Moldavia was the place where Yiddish, Greek, Turkish, Crimean, Moldavian, Romanian and still more cultures met and created unique, new musical hybrids. In this concert, the virtuosic faculty of the two current workshops offer an exquisite “tasting menu” of instrumental and vocal music from these cultures. Plus, a “surprise” appearance by the Yiddish language program faculty.
