Di gantse velt iz a teater! Efim Chorny (vocals) and Suzanna Ghergus (piano) share a program of Yiddish songs that are little-known today but once graced the stages of Yiddish theaters and cabarets from Poland and France to the United States and Argentina. Revitalizing the Yiddish theater repertoire of the 1900s-1930s, Chorny and Ghergus draw on decades of experience that began with their project “The Theater of Jewish Song” in 1992 Moldova. The duo’s own original Yiddish songs have since found their way into the repertoire of many of today’s leading Yiddish singers, closing the circle of the constant rediscovery and transmission of Yiddish music, old and new.
