Colloquium
Early Yiddish Findings from Thuringia and Cologne
Aug 3, Thu 4 p.m. @ Kleine Synagoge, Erfurt

Exhibition in the Small Synagogue Erfurt, August 3 to October 13, 2023

In recent years, a number of medieval objects with Yiddish texts or inscriptions have been rediscovered and studied. These include two findings from Thuringia: A 15th-century personal letter in Yiddish from Mühlhausen, and the only known medieval Yiddish building inscription from Erfurt to date. Additionally, some of the slates from the former Jewish quarter in Cologne also show Yiddish inscriptions. The cabinet exhibition in the Small Synagogue displays these new findings and contextualizes them in the history of the Yiddish language.
