(You should know the Yiddish alphabet.)
with Dr Diana Matut
For the first time ever, Yiddish Summer Weimar is offering a workshop in Early Yiddish. This course will offer you an introduction to Early Yiddish manuscripts and prints, literary texts, and songs from the 1300s all the way to the 1700s.
Each day, we’ll explore one specific text, reading and translating it and discovering more about its cultural context. We’ll encounter gems from the oldest complete literary texts from the Cairo Genizah in Yiddish to the earliest Yiddish printed texts and much more. The week will be much too short to cover all the treasures of Early Yiddish, but we’ll get a thorough start!
Please note!
if you want to participate in this course, you should be comfortable reading the Yiddish alphabet. You do not need to be fluent in Yiddish or have advanced knowledge of the language.
If you’re not sure whether this class is right for you, please send an email to from where it will be forwarded to Dr Diana Matut!
Please note!
