Have you ever mused that the wild and crazy side of klezmer music would be perfect for… a circus show? If so, the wait is over! Acrobat Eliana Pliskin Jacobs and clown Sam Gurwitt have joined forces with what might be today’s wildest and craziest klezmer band, Dobranotch, to create the first klezmer circus to perform at YSW.
Stories of wandering and migration, together with acrobatics and aerials, clowning and mime, flying instruments, and raucous live klezmer music will soon get you out of your seat to dance.
But, like all good klezmer music (and like all good clowns), there's also a serious side behind the exuberance. The show taps into themes of European Jewish history and explores the present-day exile of some of the performers on stage. A circus as thought-provoking as it is exhilarating. Der fliendiker balagan has landed! Experience it before it flies away!
