Boundless energy, inspiring musicianship, extraordinary songs—this is a project, and an evening, to remember.
Eight leading artists from the world of Yiddish music come together to give voice to the poetry of Yiddish-speaking women. Commissioned by Yiddish Summer Weimar, this ambitious project sets these remarkable texts to newly created, 21st century Yiddish music that embraces a rich spectrum of sounds, textures, and styles—from lyrical song to techno, from klezmer-inspired traditions to contemporary pop.
In this concert, the words of Yiddish women poets find powerful new expression through the creativity and artistry of a new generation of performers.
Don’t miss this vibrant transcontinental musical encounter, featuring the exceptional talents of Kaia Bermann-Peters (Yiddishland), Flora Curzon (UK), Ida Gillner (SE), Shura Lipovsky (NL), Anna Lowenstein (UK), Sarah Myerson (USA), Polina Shepherd (UK), and Francesca Ter-Berg (UK).
Together they create an evening that is at once deeply rooted in tradition and boldly contemporary—a celebration of Yiddish women’s voices for our time.

Vayter! Yiddish and Middle Eastern Music in Dialogue
Since 2017, around 45–50 young musicians from Israel and Germany have come together at Yiddish Summer Weimar for three weeks to create an exhilarating concert program far removed from political agendas and polarization, and to present it to an ever-enthusiastic audience.
The participants from Israel include both Arab and Jewish musicians, while the German group is a colorful mix of young music students from many different conservatories and music universities. What they all share is a passion for exciting music and a desire to make music together and learn from one another: music, languages, songs, dance, rhythms, scales, shteyger, maqamat, and more!
Caravan is led by four outstanding musicians from around the world: Polina Shepherd (UK), Veronika Varga (Hungary), Josh “Socalled” Dolgin (Canada), and Ozan Demir (Turkey). Together they represent the very top international ranks of Yiddish, Greek, and Turkish music, bringing inspiration and a richly diverse repertoire.
Audiences can look forward to thrilling, high-energy music performed by exceptional young musicians who never stand still, but instead keep moving vayter (Yiddish: “forward”)—toward one another.
Expect klezmer with Turkish-Arabic percussion, Yiddish songs with Ottoman variations, and Greek and Turkish dance music infused with Arabic rhythms—definitely not to be missed!
PLEASE NOTE: In case of rain, this concert is going to take place at mon ami instead of Marktplatz. There may only be a limited number of seats at mon ami for those who cannot stand for very long.
