Are you between 7-19? Then grab your instrument or warm up your voice and join us for an exciting, hands-on introduction to klezmer music and Yiddish song!

If you’ve never played in a klezmer band, you can’t imagine how much fun it is! And if you have, well, then you know! This music is guaranteed to make your feet dance and your heart sing.

We’ll play together for four days in the Youth Klezmer Band workshop at Yiddish Summer Weimar, one of Europe’s coolest music festivals. You don’t have to know any klezmer music to join.

We’ll work in two separate age groups, ages 7-11 and 12-19. Both groups will be taught by Rosamond van Wingerden (singing, dance), Pieter Sint Nicolaas (trumpet) & Hannah Ochner (clarinet). You’re welcome to join whether you’re used to reading notes or learning tunes by ear – we’ll be doing a bit of both in the workshop, and we’ll help you out if one of those ways of learning is new to you!

The Youth Klezmer Band is a cooperation between Yiddish Summer Weimar, the Johann Nepomuk Hummel Music School in Weimar, the city of Jena Music School and the City of Erfurt Music School. Everyone age 7-19 is welcome to participate, whether you’re a student in the Weimar or Erfurt music school or not, and whether you did the workshop last year or not.
